Donald P. Lopas, age 76, of Post Lake, formerly of the Appleton area died on September 21, 2014 at Eastview Medical and Rehab Center in Antigo after battling many diseases including myofibrillar myopathies. He was born August 5, 1938 in Forest Junction, WI to the late Elmer Lopas and Toni Lopas Grissman. On April 4, 1959 he was united in marriage to Darlene Van Handel. He attended St. John's school in Little Chute. He retired from Fox River Paper in 2001 and moved to Post Lake. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Elcho. He enjoyed cooking breakfast with the Holy Family's Men's Club. He was a former board member of the Post Lake Improvement Association. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, sheepshead and boat rides and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Darlene; his children Greg (Kim) Lopas of Kimberly, Kris (Tim) Rau of Three Lakes, Doug (Katie) Lopas of Orlando, FL, Ken (Jenny Friday) Lopas of Wausau, Barney (Lori) Lopas of Anaheim, CA, grandchildren; Scott, Adam (Jesse) Weeman, James Rau, Logan, Cassie, Skylar, Courtney, Gunnar, Justine Lopas, a brother Bob (Donna) Lopas, sister-in-laws; Sandy and Linda Lopas; brother-in-laws Dick (Donna) Van Handel and Roger Green. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Tom and Dave Lopas, a sister-in-law Karen Green, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dorothy and Art Van Handel and his stepfather Jerry Grissman. A memorial mass will be Thursday at 10:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Elcho. Father David Zimmerman will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 until 10:30 at the church on Thursday. A gathering will take place Thursday in Appleton at Highland Memorial Park from 3:30PM until 4:15PM in the Star of Hope Chapel with a prayer service at 4:15 PM. Strasser-Roller Funeral Home is assisting the family. .
