Alice Degroot

March 31, 1926 — August 20, 2022

Alice Ann DeGroot, age 96, of Antigo died Saturday, August 20 at Rosalia Gardens. Alice was born on March 31, 1926 in Iron Mountain, MI to the late Joseph and Beatrice LaForce. On May 21, 1949 she was united in marriage to Ronald R. DeGroot in Green Bay. He preceded her in death. Alice lived in Crystal Falls, MI until moving to Green Bay with her family as a young girl. Upon graduating from high school, Alice completed the nurse’s training through St. Mary’s School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Green Bay Wisconsin until retiring in 1988. In her retirement years, the couple moved to Little Horn Lake in Townsend. She continued to do community nursing after she retired from the hospital, she helped with meals on wheels, did blood pressure checks for the elderly, she was an active member of St Mary of the Lakes in Lakewood where she was a liturgist, communion distributor and helped clean and decorate the church. Alice also served in The Lakes Community Center board of directors, worked for Forest County coordinating their smoking cessation program and doing diabetes clinics. In 2014, Alice moved to Antigo and resided at Pine Meadow. She treasured time with her family, enjoyed playing cards, bridge clubs with both friends and her husband, and she was especially successful at cribbage. Survivors include her children: Richard (Carol Jean), Robert (Barb), Edward (Cathy), Mary Curran, Theresa (Russ) Wagner, Gretchen DeGroot, Henry (Deborah), 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, a brother Don (Marie) LaForce, sister in law Joanne Raymaker and brother-in-law Peter (Debbie) DeGroot and many nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her husband Ronald, daughter Kathleen, brothers: Edward, Joseph, and Bob, a grandson Joshua Wagner, and a son-in-law Robert Curran, II. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 9, 2022, at 11:30 AM at Ss. Mary & Hyacinth’s Catholic Church. Father George Daniel will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the mass from 9:30 until 11:30. Interment will be in Fort Howard Cemetery, Green Bay on Monday September 12th at 1:00. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in her name. Strasser-Roller Funeral Home is assisting the family.
