Alma Opal Albrecht

April 6, 1932 — November 8, 2024

Alma Opal Albrecht, age 92 of Birnamwood, passed away surrounded by her beloved family, Friday November 8, 2024 at Rosemary Manor in Mattoon.

Alma was born on April 6, 1932 in Hollister, WI to the late Leonard and Edith (Meeks) Clay.

She was raised in Hollister and graduated 8th grade from Hollister School.

On October 18, 1952 she married George Henry, he preceded her in death on July 11, 1982. Together Alma and George proudly raised their six children.

On April 30, 1983 she married Herman O. Albrecht and welcomed his three sons into her family. Herman preceded her in death on February 6, 2024.


Alma worked as a cook at Leffel’s Supper Club, Happy’s Café, and Eastview Manor before retiring in 1995. She loved making rum balls, fudge, biscuits, and cookies for her family. She always had a cookie jar of homemade cookies for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who she dearly loved. Alma also enjoyed Music in the Park.

She was a member of Faith United Church of Christ and the VFW Auxiliary of Antigo.


Alma is survived by 5 children: Frank (Deb) Henry, Kathy (Erro) Straw, Gail (Jim) Reid, Margie (Mike) Peterlick, Georgie Henry, a special daughter Bobbie (Dan) Lutzow, a special son Austin James Clay, 24 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, 3 stepsons: Pat (Cathy) Albrecht, Larry Albrecht, Dale Albrecht, many nieces and nephews, and her good friend Margie Behm.

In addition to her parents and husbands George and Herman, Alma was preceded in death by a daughter Barb, a grandson Billy, 3 brothers: Frank, Richard, and Earl, 8 sisters: Vivian, Ella, Grace, Jean, Blanche, Gladys, Violet, and Marie and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 15 at 11:00 AM at Faith United Church of Christ. Reverend Wes Jedras will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the service Friday at the Church. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.


While residing at Rosemary Manor, Alma always looked forward to afternoon visits with Carrie. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at Rosemary Manor for their loving care.
