Ann Allgaier, age 86 of Wausau, formerly of Antigo, passed away at her home under the care of her family and Compassus Wausau Home Health. Ann was born on December 26, 1934 in Berwyn, Illinois, to the late Fletcher and Evelyn (Jene’) Gruthoff. She was a graduate of J. Sterling Morton High School class of 1953. Following graduation, she worked as a switch board operator for Bell Telephone. On April 24, 1954, Ann was united in marriage to Richard John Allgaier, who preceded her in death on December 2, 2012, exactly 9 years to the day of her passing. They resided in La Grange, Illinois until the summer of 1975 when they moved to Antigo. She was a member of Faith United Church of Christ in Antigo. Ann was very creative and artistic, talented in all types of needlecrafts. She loved to knit, crochet, embroider, and sew. Her children and grandchildren were lucky recipients of her handmade creations. She and her husband were also gemstone collectors and together made beautiful jewelry. Ann was a wonderful gardener; she was especially fond of lilies. She and Rich enjoyed many hours of bird watching and viewing numerous deer who would travel through their yard. The couple would often rescue and adopt stray cats and dogs that were fortunate enough to wander into their lives. Ann is survived by two daughters, Beth (Keith) Lindner of Antigo and Barbara (Bill) Krause of Wausau, a son David (Joan) Allgaier of Antigo, a brother Bruce Gruthoff of Beaver Dam, a brother-in-law Donald (Flora) Allgaier of Lisle, Illinois, sisters-in-law Doris Johnson of Springfield, Missouri, Joan Aramus of Marionville, Missouri, Emmalee Schomisch of Appleton, and Joan Braatz of Beaver Dam, many nieces and nephews, grandchildren Amy (Dameon) Becerra, Ali (Gordon) Hoyt, Kim (Jacob) Tatro, Dan (Amy) Kegler, Tony (Joy) Kegler, Katy Allgaier, Benjamin (Jenny) Bierman, Cassandra (Ryan) Fuller, Jamie (Andy) McIntyre, Michelle (Bryan) Stellick; great grandchildren Conner, Jacob, Bella, Ellie, Juni, Grayson, Emelia, Divine, Serene, Davion, Neela, Contessa, Devon, Cody, Annette, John, Jaymin, Alanna, Natalie, Olivia, Amelia, Charlotte, and a great grandson due in May. In addition to her parents and husband, Ann was preceded in death by a sister Betty Norberg, brother Fletcher Gruthoff, and brothers-in-law, James Allgaier, Donald Arazmus, and Frank Johnson. A memorial service for Ann will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 11:30 AM at Faith United Church of Christ with Reverend Wes Jedras officiating. A visitation will take place prior to the service at the church from 10:00 to 11:30 AM
