Anton "Satch" D. Duffek

Anton "Satch" D. Duffek, of Antigo, died Wed. Nov. 17 at Langlade Hospital under the care of LeRoyer Hospice and his family. He was 95 years old. He was born July 3, 1915 in Mattoon, son of the late Joseph and Clara (Stauber) Duffek. He married Dorothy Devine on Aug. 5, 1939 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Phlox. She preceded him in death on Oct. 26, 2009.Satch worked as a truck driver from 1933-1942. He worked in machine shops in Milwaukee during World War II. He and Dorothy moved to Mattoon in 1946 and started a gravel business in Birnamwood in 1947. They moved to Antigo in 1950 and started the ready mix concrete business Duffek Sand and Gravel. He retired in 1982.Former residences include Mattoon, Chicago, Mauston and Milwaukee. Satch loved to travel the world, visiting many countries and 5 continents. He especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren on trips.Survivors include 3 daughters, Jane (George) Shinners of Antigo, Patty (Mike) Wilson of Madison, Julie (Gary) Angus of West Columbia, SC; 2 sons, Paul (Anne) Duffek of Madison, WI and Peter (Kathleen "Bonnie") Duffek of Waukesha; 2 sisters, Rosie Racine of Mattoon and Rita Palmer of Mattoon; a brother, Paul Duffek of Antigo; 23 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents and his wife, Dorothy, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mary Buslaff and Clara Fischer; 2 brothers, Joseph Duffek and John Duffek; and 2 grandsons, Anthony Duffek and Charles McKenna. In accordance with Satch's wishes a private family gathering was held.
