Arnott R. "Arnie" Wagner, age 77, of Deerbrook died Saturday at his home under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. Mr. Wagner was born January 5, 1935 in Antigo to the late Arnott Wagner, Sr. and Rose (Bula) Wagner. He married Elizabeth Mattek on August 10, 1957 at St. Wencel's Catholic Church in Neva. Mr. Wagner attended St. Hyacinth's Catholic School and served as an altar boy at St. Hyacinths' Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Antigo High School class of 1952. He then served in the US Navy from 1952-1956. Mr. Wagner owned and operated Wagner Ambulance Service in Antigo along with his parents. He served on the Antigo Police Department as a Police Officer from 1961 until his retirement in 1985. The Wagners were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church where Mr. Wagner was active in the church and school, serving as a parish council member, a trustee, and as president of the board of education. Upon retirement the couple made their home at Bass Lake and became members of Holy Family Catholic Church in Elcho where Mr. Wagner served as trustee. Mr. Wagner was a member of the Benevolent Order of Elks, Holy Family Men's Club, and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. In addition to his wife, Beth, survivors include their children, Bill (Mary) and their children Kristin (Ben) Brown and Michael, Debbie (Gene) Clark and their daughter, Angela; Paul (Deb) and her daughter, Taylor Belant; Dawn Wagner and Wendy (Randy) Tucker, her daughters Taylor and Alissa Lowell and his children, Jaime Brown, Julie (Jon) Warax, Chase and Randy's 5 grandchildren; 2 nephews; Jon (Elaine) Reeves and Patric (Kelly) Mattek and in-laws Merdith (John) Sotiros and William Mattek. Mr. Wagner was preceded in death by a sister Patricia Reeves and her husband Bob. A funeral mass will be held on Friday at 11:00am at Holy Family Catholic Church in Elcho. Reverend Norman Krutzik and Reverend Jeremiah Worman will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 9:00am until the service at the church. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Summit Lake, WI. Memorials may be directed toward All Saints Catholic School, Langlade Hospital Dialysis, LeRoyer Hospice, or the charity of your choice. Strasser-Roller Funeral Home is assisting the family.
