Barbara E. Steinke

Barbara Ellen Steinke died January 26, 2011 at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation Center. She was 100 years old.She was born April 29, 1910, in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of David and Margaret (Price) Watts.She married Frederick W. Steinke on August 6, 1930, in Pittsburgh.She is survived by her son Jeff Shannon Sr., his wife Karen, grandson Jeff Jr. in Bayfield, his wife Denise, and great-grandson Austin. Other family members include Tom and Lisa (Sable) Kafka and their children, Molly and Bennett, in DePere, and Tony Sable in Vista, CA. A brother, David Franklin Watts, resides in Clarksville, TN.She was preceded in death by her husband in 1962, her daughter-in-law Constance "Sammy" Shannon in 1975, grandson Christopher Shannon in 1992, and six brothers and sisters.Upon her retirement in Park Falls, she moved here and enjoyed the Antigo Women's Club, knitting, C-Span of which she kept volumes of notes, and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers and the Packers and Brewers. She rounded up extra copies of the Antigo Daily Journal when her son had a column or two in print and sent them "back east." The 1995 photo was her favorite. She wanted a new broom, mop, pail, and laundry basket for Christmas. She was one happy lady that day coming out of Fleet Farm!A memorial service for the family will be held at a later date.
