Benedict "Ben" Verhasselt

Benedict “Ben” Verhasselt of Antigo passed away on October 20, 2020 in Wisconsin Rapids at the age of 95. Ben was born on January 16, 1925 to the late Henry and Mary (DeBroux) Verhasselt in Phlox. On June 26, 1952, he was united in marriage to Eloise Pitts at St. Joseph’s in Phlox. Ben served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked for Draeger Oil, Antigo Co-op Service Station, and Weinbrenner Shoe factory for more than 20 years. Ben enjoyed gardening, watching the Green Bay Packers, and hunting and fishing at his cabin. He was also a member at Ss. Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church. In addition to his wife, Ben is survived by a daughter; Brenda (Dan) Davis of Yukon, OK, sons; Dan (Sandy) Verhasselt of Johnston, IA, Jeff Verhasselt of Antigo, and Tim (Terri) Verhasselt of Green Bay, sister; Helen Verhasselt of Antigo, brother; Clem Verhasselt of Wausau, 7 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by brothers; Ray Verhasselt and Frank Verhasselt and sisters; Bernice Noskowiak, Agnes Krivoshein, Katherine Brittenham, and Lucille VerHagen. In accordance with Ben’s wishes, private services will be held.
