Beverly Ann Nequette, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, Dec. 18, 2023, at The Bay at Eastview Nursing Facility in Antigo.
Beverly was born in Antigo on March 24, 1933, to Lawrence and Mayme (Gardner) Magelund. She attended grade school in Antigo and later graduated with the Antigo High School Class of 1951. She married Lyman Nequette on June 16, 1951.
After raising her two children (daughter, Deborah, and son, John), Beverly worked in various capacities for Montgomery Wards Dept. Store in Antigo, the Unified School District of Antigo and Langlade Memorial Hospital. She was a long-time member of Peace Lutheran Church in Antigo.
Beverly lived her life to the fullest. She enjoyed taking trips with her husband Lyman and their close friends, visiting with family, reading, watching game shows (especially “Chain Reaction,” at which she was quite savvy!), and spending time with loved ones. She also was an absolutely outstanding baker and cook. Her pies were legendary for having the flakiest, most delicious and most beautifully designed crusts. And, she made was the best meatloaf – EVER!!
Bev was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, UW Badgers and Antigo Red Robins football teams and of the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team.
Above all else, Beverly was an incredibly kind and sweet person. She put the wants and needs of others before herself, and she always was available to help when a family member or friend needed company or comfort.
Beverly is survived by her daughter Deborah (Mitchell) Bent (Antigo); grandsons Craig Schroepfer (Burnsville, MN.) and Tom (Elise) Schroepfer and their daughters Eva Jean and Mila Rae (Minneapolis, MN.); granddaughter Kathy Nequette and daughter-in-law Peggy Nequette (Eau Claire); beloved nieces Shari (Legro) Orgeman and husband Brad Breyer (Antigo), Kathie (Legro) Severson (Eau Claire) and Diane Frantz (Appleton); nephews John (Debbie) Legro (Deerbrook) and Michael (Marilyn) Magelund (Albany, GA.).
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lyman Nequette; her son John “Nick” Nequette; her brother Myles “Bucky” Magelund and his wife Dorothy; her sister Marquette Legro ; son-in-law Raymond Schroepfer; and her beloved cat “Muffin.”
Beverly's family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt “Thank You” to the staff of The Bay at Eastview for the wonderful, loving care they provided Bev during her stay. They also extend that “Thank You” to the staff of the Milestone Assisted Living Facility in Eau Claire, where Bev resided for six years before returning to Antigo this past May.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Dec. 29 a.m., 11:00 a.m., at Peace Lutheran Church, with Pastor Jarod Fenske officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Strasser-Roller Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Beverly's name should be directed to the Antigo Public Library and the Langlade County Humane Society.
As noted previously, Beverly always put others before herself. Now that her time on Earth has passed, “Great Beverly” (as she was lovingly dubbed by her great-granddaughters Eva and Mila Schroepfer) has ascended to a place where this wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother will be NUMBER ONE. Today. Tomorrow. Forever.
The poem below is added to this obituary in Beverly's honor:
If I Should Go Tomorrow (Anon)
If I should go tomorrow
It would never be good-bye
For I have left my heart with you,
So don't you ever cry.
The love that's deep within me,
Shall reach you from the stars
You'll feel it in the heavens,
And it will heal the scars.
