Brenda Zahurones, born Brenda Hedrick on August 1, 1957, in Port Huron, Michigan, passed away at the age of 68 after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of her family.
Brenda spent most of her life in Antigo, Wisconsin, where she became a quiet constant in the lives of everyone lucky enough to know her. She was a worker in the truest sense, spending nearly 40 years tying flies for Mepps, and later working at local lumber mills and Amron. She showed up. That was who she was.
To know Brenda was to feel immediately at ease. She was a bundle of warmth and love, the kind of presence that filled a room without demanding attention, soft and steady, like a morning filled with soft light and dew-tipped grass. She loved her children and grandchildren fiercely, kept close friendships, and found her happiest moments outdoors camping under open skies and taking road trips with the people she loved most.
Her love story with Doug Zahurones was one for the books. They married, parted ways, found each other again, parted ways again, and are now doing what stubborn hearts do, reuniting for round three. Because apparently some people are just too meant for each other to quit. Doug passed May 31, 2022, but she carried him with her. And now they’re together again.
Brenda is survived by her children Dana (Mike), Steven (Kailey), and Brian (Jenna); her grandchildren Jalen (19), Blaise (16), Nirvana (10), and Bennington (3); and her brothers Carl and Mike, as well as extended family who love her as well. She is reunited with those she loved who went before her: her parents Betty and James Hering, her brother Chuck Hedrick, her daughter Shelley Lynn, who she never stopped carrying in her heart, Mark Hallisy, Dana’s father, and Doug Zahurones.
Per her wishes, there will be no formal service. Her family will honor her life together in the way she would have wanted: gathered, traveling, and close. Cards can be sent to: W7559 Valley Rd Antigo, WI 54409.
