Carl Augustus Hollquist

Carl Augustus Hollquist, of Pickerel, died Monday, February 6, 2017 at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay. He was 83 years old. He was born May 9, 1933 in Albert Lea, MN, son of the late Carl and Augusta (Johnson) Hollquist. He married Jane (Aldinger) Larson on October 5, 1990 at Arbutus Lutheran Church in Pearson. She survives and resides in Pickerel. Mr. Hollquist graduated from high school in Hudson, SD. He served in the US Army in Korea, and attained the rank of Corporal. He settled in Algonquin, IL, where he worked as a mason. In 1974, he moved to Pickerel, where he helped build Maplewood Golf Course and worked as groundskeeper at Maplewood and Nicolet Country Club in Laona. He was also a member of the Pickerel Volunteer Fire Department. Carl loved his church and was a faithful member of Arbutus Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. He enjoyed fishing and traveling, especially trips to Branson, MO. He was also an avid reader. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a stepdaughter, Lynn (Mike) Kulas of Mesa, AZ; 2 stepsons, Lee (Kathy Groshek) Larson of Amherst and Gary ( Karen Kummer) Larson of Pickerel; a sister, Connie Jacobsen of Algonquin, IL; a brother, Jim (Mary) Hollquist of Algonquin, IL; 5 step-grandchildren, Travis (Kylie) Larson of Plover, Coleen Kuenzli of Marinette, Laura Kulas of Mesa, AZ, Jamie (Juan) Gill of Jacksonville, FL, Dolly Larson of Valdosta, GA; 8 step-great grandchildren; 6 nieces and nephews, Kurt Hollquist, Bryan Hollquist, Kristie Johnson, Kari Carpenter, Anna Noble and Nancy Bork. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Jerry Larson, and a step daughter- in-law, Judy Larson. Services will be scheduled at a later date in the spring at Arbutus Lutheran Church, with inurnment at the church cemetery. An announcement will be published in the Antigo Daily Journal. Strasser-Roller Funeral Home is assisting the family. Memorials in Carl's name may be directed to Arbutus Lutheran Church.
