Charles "Chuck" Melzer

Charles Roy Melzer “Chuck”, age 83 of Antigo, died March 14, 2022, at The Bay at Eastview. Chuck was born on October 1, 1938 to the late Roy and Adeline (Kratzke) Melzer in Madison, WI. He was a graduate of Clintonville High School class of 1956 where he was a star basketball player. He went on to attend UW Stevens Point. On June 29, 1958, he was united in marriage to Judith “Judy” Remington. Judy preceded him in death on January 20, 2020. The couple resided in Birnamwood for 18 years and moved to Antigo in 1977. Chuck was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Chuck worked for the Four-Wheel Drive Corporation in Clintonville after his time at UW Stevens Point. On April 1, 1959, he founded Melzer Trucking. His milk route was identified as the T Route which later inspired the name of his four children. Chuck was also a volunteer firefighter when he lived in Birnamwood. He enjoyed bowling, attending the Hodag Country Music Festival, and watching all sports including the Brewers and the Packers. His favorite sports to watch however, were the ones his grandkids participated in. Most of all, Chuck enjoyed spending his time with family and friends. Survivors include a son; Tim (Chris) Melzer of Antigo; and 3 daughters; Teri Melzer of Appleton, Tracy (Steve) Trettin of Panama City Beach, FL, and Tami (Lance) Doering of Antigo; 7 grandchildren; Jackie (Pete) Lenaker, Mikki (Jason) Gregory, Alysa (Jake) Ninneman, Remington and Maxwell Trettin, Logan and Olivia Doering; 7 great grandchildren; Willa, Silas, Beatrice and Juniper Lenaker; Rivers and Ruby Gregory, and Lennon Ninneman; brothers-in-law; Jerry Remington and Ken Swett, and many nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson, Ian Trettin, father and mother-in-law, Al and Lillian Remington, sisters; Yvonne “Mitzi” (Bill) Plowman, Carol (Mark) Van Vreede, and Judy Swett. In honoring Chuck's wishes private funeral services will be held.
