Chester Eugene Sinkler, of Antigo, died Saturday, May 11, 2013 at KTCR-Eastview under the care of his family. He was 96 years old. He was born May 4, 1917 in the Town of Norwood, son of the late John and Dora (Vineing) Sinkler. He married Margaret Benes on June 15, 1940, and she passed away on Oct. 25, 2012. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1935-1936, stationed at Camp Twin Lakes in Iron River, Camp Morse in Morse, and Camp Mineral Lake in Marengo. After his service in the CCC, he was a laborer in the Antigo area, working on gravel, brick, and excavating projects for Langlade Memorial Hospital, the Hudson Street Bridge, and many other road and infrastructure projects. Always a hard worker, he went on to employment at the Antigo Veneer Mill and the Typlug Mill. He also worked for American Motors Corporation in Kenosha until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 72. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, listening to polka music, and watching wrestling. Survivors include his 15 children, Margie Tatro of Milwaukee, Pat Dezoma of Kenosha, Herb (Stacy) of Kenosha, Bettie Williams of Antigo, Lorraine Dedrick of Antigo, Doris Brown of Antigo, Clara (Donald) Leitzke of Deerbrook, Arlene (Robert) Susek of Milwaukee, Peggy (Gary) Maxfield of Texas, Raymond (Charlene) of Kenosha, Gary of Antigo, Cindie Havner of Texas, Shirley (Randy) Baskin of Texas, David of Wauwatosa, and Barbie (Curtis) Kurszewski of Mukwonago; 2 sisters-in-law, Frances Benes of Antigo, and Helen Zellmar of Rhinelander; a brother-in-law, Stanley (Lucille) Benes of Bryant; 27 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 41 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sons, Dick and Roger; an infant daughter; and 5 brothers, Evert, Leonard, Glen, Clyde, and Veral. A funeral will take place at noon on Thursday, May 16 at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Chester's son-in-law Gary Maxfield will officiate. Visitation will be 9-noon Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery.
