Clyde Howard died Wed. Oct. 26 at Langlade Hospital under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 79 years old. He was born Sept. 7, 1932 in Gleason, son of the late Walter and Linda (Lewis) Howard. He married LaVerne Vogels on Aug. 19, 1955 in Detroit, MI. LaVerne preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 2011. Mr. Howard was employed as an over the road truck driver. After retiring, he worked as a mechanic and auto body worker. Later, he sold produce and crafts at fairs and markets. He was a resident of Antigo, and formerly lived in Detroit. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing Hank Williams, Sr. songs. Survivors include 3 daughters, Barbara (Randy) Plautz of Mole Lake, Debbie Howard (Wayne Schroepfer) of Antigo, Genevieve "Kay" (Raymond) Ponshock of White Lake; 3 sons, Mike Howard of Antigo, Ted (Alice) of Antigo, and Patrick Howard of Antigo; a sister, Betty Jane (Harold) Ward of Antigo; a brother, Bob (Lois) Howard of Rhinelander; 25 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his faithful companion and canine friend, Buddy. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ellen King; a son Timothy Clyde Howard; a sister, Lorraine; 3 brothers, Roy, Cliff, and Ottis; and a granddaughter, Heidi Howard. A funeral service will be held at noon Friday at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home, with Pastor Ervin Messer officiating. Visitation will be 10:30-noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery.
