On June 28, 2022, Darlene Pietz passed away from a short battle of gall bladder cancer. She was born on December 11, 1944 in Hartford, WI to Earl and Armella Malchow. She was married to Fred Hackbarth on November 16, 1968, later divorced. They had two children, Brian (Jen) Hackbarth of Post Lake and Brenda (Josh) Malitz of Pearson. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Gavin Hackbarth, Hoyt and Malorie Malitz. Darlene married Wallace Pietz on May 28, 1983. She then gained 3 step-daughters, Lynn (Tony) Lukes, Trish (David) Weiss, and Susie (Bob) Westphal. And with that, came step grandchildren, Sydney and Griff Lukes, Cullen and Cody Weiss, Tony (Autumn) Westphal, Josh (Tina) Westphal, and Matt (Jessie) Westphal. Darlene has four loving siblings, Kathlene (Ron) Schier, Norine (Jerry) Neu, Carlene (Bobby) Scherr, and Fred (Laurie) Malchow, along with many nieces and nephews. Darlene was preceded in death by her father Earl, mother Armella, sister Marlene Malchow, and nephew Jason Scherr and step grandson Austin Palubicki. Together, Wally and Darlene ran W & D Wholesale Bait in Allenton, WI. In 1993, they retired and wintered in Florida and had a summer cottage in Northern Wisconsin. Darlene enjoyed downhill skiing, snowmobiling, horseshoes, fishing on Post Lake and playing cards with the girls at Twin Oaks. She made a lot of friends at senior dining in Elcho. Even though she retired, Darlene still stayed busy making ornaments for Mistletoe Memories. Darlene did this for well over 20 years. A Mass of Christian Burial for Darlene will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 12:00 PM at St. Mary Catholic Church in Pickerel. Visitation will be held at the church prior to service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Burial will follow the Mass at Elcho Cemetery. Memorials in Darlene’s name may be directed to St. Mary Catholic Church. Strasser-Roller Funeral Home is assisting the family. Friends may visit online at strasserrollerfuneralhome.com.
