Donald Gilbert Vollmer passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Eastview Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was under the care of LeRoyer Hospice.
Donald was born on February 13, 1941 in South Milwaukee to the late Gilbert and Edna (Rootes) Vollmer. Donald married Cynthia (Heath) Glenn on October 20, 1962. Although they later divorced, the couple remained friends and lovingly had two children.
Donald graduated from South Milwaukee High School, class of 1959. He went on to work as a machinist for Kearney & Trecker, and Bucyrus-Erie. In 1973, Donald and his family moved to Antigo where he began work at Waukesha Bearings. He then retired from working with the Langlade County Highway Department.
Donald enjoyed classic cars and tractors. He also liked spending his time watching nature and indulging in his favorite treat, dark chocolate. He valued his friendships with all and was known for making his rounds to visit friends including his neighbor Jim.
In addition to Cynthia, Donald is survived by children Tammy Vollmer of Antigo and Jeff (Lori) Vollmer of Bryant, grandchildren, Shawn Patraw of New Hampshire, Tara (Jason) Schroeder of Antigo, Gandalf Jenkins of Antigo, Theologian Jenkins of Wausau, Jenna (Mike) Barske of Antigo, and Brenden (friend Kendra) Vollmer of Antigo, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a brother Noel Vollmer and a sister Jackie.
A visitation for Donald will take place on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm with a time for sharing at 5:30. The visitation will take place at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Additionally, a celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
