Donald L. Kakes

Donald L. Kakes, age 87, formerly of Bryant died Saturday, May 12 at Kindred Tansitional Care and Rehabilitation – Eastview. Mr. Kakes was born April 6, 1925 in Antigo to the late Fred and Emma (Barta) Kakes. He married Mavis Buboltz on June 7, 1952 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Deerbrook. She survives. Mr. Kakes graduated from Antigo High School in 1942. He was maple syrup producer and a talented carpenter. He enjoyed the outdoors, berry picking, working in the woods, gardening, and ice fishing. He was active with 4-H for over 25 years, was a member of the Wisconsin Maple Syrup Producers Association, and Badgerland Classics Car Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters; Penny (Bruce) McLeod of Green Bay and Karen (Wayne) Acker of New London; 5 granddaughters; Amber, Ashley, Allison, and Abbey Acker and Michaela McLeod; 2 sisters; Bea Devore and Audrey Heinzen both of Antigo; and 2 sister-in-laws Gen and Helen Kakes also of Antigo. Mr. Kakes was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Richard and Carl and 2 brother-in-laws Maurice Devore and Clinton Heinzen. Funeral services for Mr. Kakes will be on Wednesday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Deerbrook. Reverend Jerome Hahn will officiate. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00pm until 7:30pm at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the service at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. A memorial will be established in Mr. Kakes' name.
