Doris E. Schafer

April 29, 1930 — September 30, 2010

Doris Elaine Schafer; a loving mother, grandmother and sister; died Thurs. Sept. 30 at her home. She was 80 years old.She was born April 29, 1930, daughter of the late Thomas and Ida Holeton. She married Lyman James Schafer on Jan. 25, 1947, and he preceded her in death on April 15, 1992. In the early years of their marriage Doris and Lyman enjoyed the outdoors together.A lifelong resident of the area, Mrs. Schafer was a homemaker and loving wife. A generous mom and grandmother, she always had gifts and treats for everyone. She was a wonderful mother, and her home was always open for all. She was known and loved as "Mom" by many. Her family will cherish the time spent with Doris, laughing and telling stories.She was a true American Patriot and very proud of her husband a WWII Veteran, family members, and all who have served our country.Mrs. Schafer enjoyed the outdoors, especially snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing with her husband. She also crocheted, worked on jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and listened to music. An avid reader, she continued enjoying books even after her eyesight failed. Most recently she completed the Holy Bible.Survivors include 6 sons, Ron of Antigo, Jerry (Deb) of Lake Charles, LA, Pete of Madisonville, KY, Rick (Shayney) of Antigo, Dan (Cindy) of Antigo, and Scott (Andrea) of Wausau; 2 sisters, Lucille (Stanley) Benes of Antigo, and Hazel Kester of Grafton; a brother-in-law Lawrence Ingram of Antigo; 27 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren soon to arrive.In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Lyman Jr.; 4 sisters, Violet Pantzlaff, Bernice Pilecky, Charlotte Packard and Evelyn Ingram; and 3 brothers, Ken, Howard, and Raymond.Services will be Monday at 12:00 PM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in Mrs. Schafer's name.Her life was her family, and she showed her love by sharing hugs and saying, "I love you" with each farewell.
