Duane A. "Duke" Schenk was called home to be with Jesus April 15, 2009. The son of the late Frederick and Mabel (Andrews) Schenk, he was born November 15, 1932 on the family farm in the Town of Wolf River. His childhood days were filled with helping on the farm, logging, hunting and fishing. He attended Markton School and later White Lake School, where he met the love of his life, Elsie Simmons. Duane and Elsie were married November 15, 1952 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Lily, Wisconsin. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Duane and Elsie moved to Cedarburg, Wisconsin where they raised their family. Retiring from American Can, they returned to their hometown, White Lake. Duane had many passions in life, his family, God, and country. He loved hunting, fishing and being in the woods. He was a member of Trout Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, and White Tail unlimited. He taught snowmobile safety. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 524 of White Lake. He leaves behind his wife Elsie, sons Duane Schenk and Gary Schenk of Grafton, daughters, Gloria (Lawrence) Loppnow of Wausau, Diane (Dave) Jeziorski of Fredonia and JoAnn Seidel of Niagra, WI; grandchildren Heather (Jeff) Schmidt, Nicole Schenk, Michelle (Glen) Gildemeister, Paul (fiancé Kayla) Jeziorski, Derrick, Gina, and Patrick Seidel and great grandchildren, Olivia and Jenna Schmidt, Nicholas Schenk, Dylan and Haleigh Gildemeister, Derrick Seidel Jr. and Raedyn Seidel; brothers George (Dorothy) Schenk, Clyde "Dan" (Linda) Schenk, a sister Mary Lou (Arthur) Yaroch, his mother-in-law Florence Simmons, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. He joins his parents, brothers, William Hughes and Glen and Gene Schenk and a sister Phyllis Steckbauer. Funeral service will be Saturday at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in White Lake at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until the service at the church. Reverend Steven Vaudt and Reverend Paul Scheunemann will officiate. Burial will be in Langlade Cemetery with military honors at the cemetery. The family requests donations to St. Matthews Lutheran of White Lake Church Bell Tower Fund and the Organ Fund at Tabor Lutheran Church of Mountain or the charity of your choice.
