Edward "Eddie" Stasek, age 97, died Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Evergreen Terrace. Mr. Stasek was born on April 16, 1918 in Deerbrook to the late Anton and Anna (Vitous) Stasek. He was united in marriage to Martha Bera on August 30, 1940 at S. Hyacinth's Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2007. Eddie attended Gillis Grade School. He worked in Monico at a logging camp for 2 years, and then worked for the Conservation Corp in Elcho for 2 years. He was also a painter in Chicago for a period of time. When he returned to the area, he and Martha, the love of his life, dairy farmed in Neva for many years. During that time he became a pilot and had his own Taylorcraft airplane. He later worked for Baker Canning Company as a field manager for 25 years. During retirement, Eddie could be seen mowing lawn and shoveling snow for homeowners throughout Antigo. He was equally known for his generous donations throughout the area, including contributions to the Veterans' Memorial at the Langlade County Courthouse, the warming house for children at the Peaceful Valley Park, lighted signs at the Langlade County Fairgrounds, the playground and mural at Veterans Memorial Park at Jack Lake and restoring the band stand at the Antigo City Park. Eddie will always be remembered for his kind smile, his gentle spirit and positive manner. He always believed his glass was full. Eddie was a member of Ss. Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church. Survivors include a niece, Shirley Zelazoski, many nieces and nephews of Martha's, many dear friends including Jim (Joan) Lindner, and his wonderful neighbors. In addition to his parents and wife, Eddie was preceded in death by an infant sister and also his sister Millie Bettack and a brother Tony Stasek. A funeral will be held on Monday at 1:00PM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Reverend Omer Kelley will officiate. Visitation will be on Monday at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the service. Entombment will be in the Queen of Peace Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Eddie's name for the Langlade County Humane Society to honor the many pet companions that warmed the hearts and home of Eddie and Martha.
