Edward Smetana, formerly of Neva, died Oct. 4, 2010 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was 87 years old.Mr. Smetana was born June 26, 1923 in Neva, son of the late Louis and Marie (Kubik) Smetana. Until his retirement, Mr Smetana worked as a farmer, raising Brown Swiss dairy cattle, pigs, and potatoes. He was a member of various agriculture organizations, including the National Farmers Organization. He and his brother were pioneers in organic farming, raising their crops organically in the 1960s. He enjoyed golfing with his friends, Joe Lane and Mel Shimeck. He also enjoyed playing cards and shaking dice at B.B. Jacks in his retirement.He is survived by his sister, Lydia Panacek of Sparks, NV; a niece, Patty (Brett) Murphy of Rancho Cordova, CA; and 4 nephews, Edward (Linda) Panacek of Carmichael, CA, Rick (Sunday) Panacek of El Segundo, CA, Leonard (Kimberly) Dudzik of Eau Claire, Jerome (Diana) Dudzik of Stillwater, MN.
