Edwin "Ed" L. Hanson of Post Lake died May 18, 2010 at Langlade Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 76 years old.He was born August 11, 1933 in Barron, a son of Jalmer and Edith (Nelson) Hanson. He married Mary Ann Tryggestad on March 1, 1969 in LaCrosse, WI.Mr. Hanson was owner of the Ben Franklin store in Arcadia from 1974 to 1990. From 1991 to 1997 he owned and operated the restaurant "Bootleggers" in Juneau. After retiring to the Post Lake area he drove school bus for Lamers in the Elcho School District from 2007 to 2008.He was a past member of the Lions, Eagles and Chamber of Commerce in Arcadia. Mr. Hanson was a past president of Arcadia Golf Course and had been past president of Arcadia Snowmobile Club. He was a member of the American Legion and Post Lake Improvement Association.Mr. Hanson was an avid golfer, fisherman and horseshoe thrower. He was a great fan of Badger football, the Packers and Brewers.Mr. Hanson served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Elcho.Survivors include three daughters, Linda Hanson, Gold Canyon, AZ, Kareen Bisson, Two Harbors, MN, and Signe Schecher, Juneau, three sons, Mitchell Hanson, Phoenix, AZ, Daniel (Amy) Hanson, Bloomington, MN and Greg Schaefer (partner Steve Stoppel), Santa Monica, CA; nine grandchildren, Leah Hanson Atwood and Natan Hanson, Mitchell and Westley Bisson, Carter and Devin Hanson, Whitney, Andrew and Steven Schecher; three great-grandchildren, Trevor and Karina Stark, and Jayden McCullum; sister-in-law, Barb Hanson, Rice Lake. He is also survived by other relatives and friends and a special dog, his friend, "Bailey".In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Hanson and a son-in-law, John Schecher.Services will take place at 11:00 a.m. and visitation from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 21 at United Church of Christ in Elcho. Rev. Jack LaMar will officiate.Military honors will take place following the service at the church.
