Eileen "Joyce" Henderson

January 9, 1928 — March 15, 2025

Eileen “Joyce” Henderson of Antigo, formerly of White Lake and Illinois, passed away on March 14, 2025 at Aspirus Langlade Hospital at the age of 97. Joyce was born on January 9, 1928 in Elton daughter of the late Sherman and Vesta (Tate) Roe.


Joyce attended the White Lake Schools, graduating from high school in 1946. She attended Langlade Teachers College and received her B.A. from National College of Education in Evanston, IL. Joyce taught for 26 years. Her first teaching position was at Pickerel Elementary, teaching all 8 grades. She then taught at Wilson Elementary in White Lake where she taught 1st through 4th grade. She then taught 2nd grade, first at White Lake Elementary and then at Birnamwood Elementary. Her last teaching assignment was at Elmwood Elementary in Zion, IL where she was a reading specialist and taught first grade. With her passion for teaching, she continued as a substitute teacher at the Unified District of Antigo in her retirement.


Joyce was a longtime member of Four Corners Assembly of God at White Lake. She played the organ for many weddings and funerals.


She married Charles Henderson in 1969. He preceded her in death on December 6, 2010.


Joyce is survived by a son Rev. Robert (Martha) Tackett of Greer, SC, daughter-in-law Francis Brown of Antigo, sister Ruth Roberts of White Lake, brother Earl (Joan) Roe of Winthrop Harbor, IL, 7 grandchildren, Dr. Gina (Brown) Koch, Charles (Kim) Brown, Nancy (Mikey) Chamblee, and Georgia Brown, Andrea Tackett, Rochelle (Douglas) Venable, and Janelle (Geno) Tackett-Collins, 6 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren, stepsons, Paul Tackett and Dan Henderson, and sister-in-law Judith Roe (wife of Edward) of Waupaca.


In addition to her parents, and husbands Charles Henderson, Luther E. Brown, and Kenneth E. Tackett, she was preceded in death by a son James M. Brown, brothers Eugene (Martha) Roe, Edward Roe, and infant brother Herman Roe, and brother-in-law James Roberts.


A funeral service for Joyce will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025 at Four Corners Assembly of God in White Lake at 12:00 PM with Rev. Marvin Kindle officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service at the church from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.


Burial will take place on Monday May 5, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Town of Wolf River Langlade Cemetery.
