Eldred "Blackie" Ambuehl

Eldred "Blackie" Ambuehl of Antigo died October 25, 2010 at Langlade Hospital. He was 82.He was born June 2, 1928 to the late Anton and Magdelena (Wolle) Ambuehl in Ada, MN.He married Albina LaPorte on May 17, 1951 in Connellsville, PA. She preceded him in death on Nov. 21, 2003.Mr. Ambuehl retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant after 20 years. He served in the Korean War and lived in many states and countries during his military career. He was stationed at the Antigo Air Force Base and after leaving the military decided to return to Antigo because he liked it here. He returned in 1967 and was an over- the- road trucker for many area businesses.He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and gardening; canning from his garden. He played baseball and softball. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and DAV in Antigo.He is survived by a daughter, Andrea (Thomas) Hoover, Wausau and sons, Eldred Ambuehl, Jr., Pasadena, MD and David Ambuehl, Antigo, four grandchildren; a sister, Theresa Kappa, Moorhead, MN and brothers Clayton (Wilma), Fargo, ND, and Burt (Doris), Lancaster, OH.In addition to his wife and parents five brothers preceded him in death.In honor of Blackie's wishes no formal services will be held. Interment will take place at St. Rita's Roman Catholic Cemetery in Connellsville, PA.
