Ellis Gerald

Ellis Gerald, longtime Antigo resident, died Wed., July 22 at Evergreen Terrace. She was 104 years old.She was born July 14, 1905 in Kentucky, daughter of the late Huston and Rosalind (Arnold) Stamper. She married Allen Gerald on July 2, 1927 in Crandon. He preceded her in death in 1977.She was a 1924 graduate of Crandon High School, and attended Normal School for 2 years. Mrs. Gerald taught in the Forest County schools. She later worked at Montgomery Ward in Antigo for 35 years.She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was active in the Methodist Ladies Group. She was also active in the hospital auxiliary. Mrs. Gerald made beautiful quilts, and even completed a Civil War quilt started by her grandmother. Survivors include nephews Robert (Diane) Stamper of Franklin; great niece Ann (Dean) Devereaux and their children, Eliza and Trent, all of Franklin, WI; special friend Helen Tuska; and other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Ronald; 3 brothers, Harland, Nelson, and Russell; and a niece Carol Nemitz. The family wishes to thank the staff of Evergreen Terrace for their love and kindness shown.
