After years of battling against unimaginable pain, Elysheva Zalewski passed away peacefully on March 1st, 2021. Despite this pain, Elysheva lived an incredible life in which she was able to impact the lives of so many others. She was a source of laughter and wisdom for her friends. She was a source of care and inspiration for her four children Anna (Bailey), Zachary (Shannon), Curtis (Ashley), and Shellane (Justin). And she was a source of love and change for her husband David Zalewski. Despite the daily agony, Elysheva was able to reach out and touch so many others with her love and compassion. Her perseverance was a source of inspiration to all who had the honor of loving her, and she will be fiercely missed. Elysheva had dissociative identity disorder, a mechanism by which the mind splits into different personalities to help cope with severe pain. In her case, these personalities helped her survive and cope with the terrible and horrific abuse she suffered from her childhood to her early adulthood. Many of these personalities were fully developed people in their own right, who had their own thoughts and desires, and their loss is as painful as the loss of Elysheva herself. Amy was one of these personalities. She was a spirited and witty young girl with a ready smile, and she leaves behind Bill and Kris Page, whom she thought of as her parents. Elysheva had a huge heart, and deeply loved a great many people, so more than her nuclear family should be mentioned here. Bill and Kris Page, Danny, Pat, Jeanne, Joel and Jodi Zalewski were all her cherished friends. Friends of her children like Seth K. Hale, Rebekah Wolf, Taylore Matucheski, Tony Schuh, and Kyle Burke were seen by her as honorary sons and daughters. She also leaves behind her six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her death leaves a painful hole in the hearts of many, but her legacy will continue to inspire each of us for the rest of our lives. A celebration of Elysheva (and sorority) will occur at 7:00 PM on May 15th at N4035 Cty Rd S. There will be laughter, tears, tequila, and dancing to classic rock (her favorite music). All gifts will be put toward a college scholarship dedicated to raising awareness for survivors of abuse. Strasser-Roller Funeral Home is assisting the family.
