Eugene Thomas "Butch" Markgraf, age 72, of Post Lake died Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family and under their care.
Butch was born on March 25, 1951 to the late Clarence and Mary (Krosnicki) Markgraf.
Butch was a graduate of Antigo High School class of 1969. On July 10, 1971 he was united in marriage to Nancy Hickey at St. John Catholic Church.
He was an area potato grower, owning and operating Butch Markgraf Farms until his retirement in 2000. Nancy and Butch moved to Post Lake following his retirement from farming. Butch then worked with Nancy at Hickey Floral.
Butch filled his free time with hunting, fishing, ice fishing, bowling, camping, golfing and playing cards. He was an active member of the Benevolent Order of ELKS and served as a trustee and was member of their prime rib cooking crew.
Survivors in addition to his wife Nancy, include a son Justin Markgraf and 2 grandchildren Eriks and Sydney.
In addition to his parents, Butch was welcomed into heaven by his daughters Yahna and Tonya, his twin sister Jane, a brother Robert and brother in-law (Grumpy old man partner) Mike Hickey III.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 5 at 2:00 PM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Father Charles Hoffmann will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the service at the funeral home. The ELKS Lodge of Sorrow will be held at 11:00 AM. Private burial will take place at Bent Cemetery.
