Eugene Duane Schlundt, age 88, of Antigo passed away on April 3, 2024 at Aspirus Langlade Hospital.
Gene was born in Antigo on June 29, 1935 to the late Alex and Carrie (Sargent) Schlundt. He married Evelyn Parsons on March 2, 1957 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Polar. She preceded him in death on May 13, 2011.
Following his graduation from Antigo High School in 1953, Gene enlisted in the U.S. Airforce, serving during the Vietnam War. During his time in the service, the family lived in Germany, Wyoming, Texas, Hawaii, and Utah. He retired from his career in the Airforce in 1974, after 20 years of service. The family then returned to the Antigo area, where Gene then worked for Bryant Garage and later Parson's of Antigo.
Gene and Evelyn loved travel and spent many winters in Cudjoe Key, FL. Throughout their life together, Gene and Evelyn were devoted to their faith in God and serving others. They enjoyed volunteering at the Soup Kitchen in Key West, delivering Meals on Wheels in Antigo and serving their church. A member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Gene served as president of the church council for many years.
He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, bicycling, swimming, and sharing a joke or two. He treasured time spent with his family and watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports and music.
Gene is survived by 2 sons Terrell (Jean) of Hartland, WI and David (Jenny) of Antigo, 8 grandchildren Brittany (Pete) Benzon, Brianne (Tim) Costigan, Terrell Jr. "TJ" (Mandy) Schlundt, Melissa (Tom) Bemis, Matt (Kaitlin) Schlundt, Morgan (Keith) Lindell, Maria Schlundt, and Alex Schlundt, great grandchildren: Mason and Jaxon Costigan, Paxton Bemis, and Ryleigh, Ayla, and Caleb Schlundt, sister Mary Anne (Walter) Schardt of Shawano, brother William (Barb) Schlundt of Marietta, GA, sister-in-law Maxine Muench of Antigo, and brothers-in-law David (Sherri) Parsons of Pickerel.
In addition to his wife and parents, Gene was preceded in death by a son Russell Schlundt, brother James Schlundt, sister Evelyn Kubiaczyck.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at noon at St. Peter Lutheran Church with visitation from 10:00 AM until the service at the Church. Reverend Donald Engebretson will officiate. Interment will be in St. Peter Church Cemetery. The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to Sarah and the staff at Evergreen Terrace for the excellent and compassionate care given to Eugene.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Gene's name may be directed to the Antigo Area Food Pantry.
