Eugene E. Pennington, age 88, died at his home on Friday, December 26, 2014. He was under the care of LeRoyer Hospice and his family. Mr. Pennington was born on January 2, 1926 in Elton, WI to the late Eli and Katherine (Servi) Pennington. He married Hope Eleanor Prosser on May 21, 1945 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Antigo. She preceded him in death on December 21, 2013. He began his lumber career as a boy with his grandfather, father and brother. He later worked for Menomonie Enterprises as a sales manager. Mr. Pennington founded Great Lakes Hardwood Lumber and owned and operated World of Wood. He worked as a real estate agent for many years. Mr. Pennington was a WWII Navy veteran and participated in the invasion at Normandy. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church. He enjoyed time at the lake and in Florida, going for rides with Hope that often led them to Dairy Queen, and celebrating the Fourth of July at the lake. His greatest joy was time with his family. Survivors include a daughter, Teresa (Jim) Schroepfer of Antigo, a son, Peter (Yvonne) Pennington of Antigo, a daughter-in-law, Sue Pennington of Post Lake, 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 2 sisters Joan Roe of Winthrop Harbor, IL and Virginia Groleau of Salem, WI. Mr. Pennington was preceded in death by a son Jerry, 2 brothers, Harvey and Anthony, and 2 sisters, Pat and Alice. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11:00 at St. John Catholic Church. Father Charles Hoffmann will officiate. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 9:00 – 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Queen of Peace Cemetery. Military honors will be held at the graveside. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in Mr. Pennington's name.
