Evelyn Damitz

Normal 0 Evelyn Damitz, 93, died January 18, 2011 at Taylor Park Nursing Home in Rhinelander, WI. She was born June 6, 1917 in Antigo, daughter of the late Jess and Pearl (Wood) Thorne. On April 22, 1936 she married Rudy Damitz at St John Catholic Church in Antigo. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1990. They owned and operated Twin Oaks Resort on Lower Post Lake from 1938 until 1962. Together they were caretakers of Steffen Memorial House for 11 years. They also lived in the Town of Ackley for 13 years. Mrs. Damitz was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Antigo. Survivors include daughters Gail (James) Smith, Crandon and Kathy (David) Dorn, Elcho; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sisters, Margie Mortenson, Wausau and June Schneck, Wausau and a brother, Roy (Phyllis) Thorne, Wausau. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son David, great grandson, Aaron Smith; two sisters, Eileen Damitz, Jean Kautza and three brothers, Glen, Richard and Don Thorne. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sat. at St John Catholic Church with Reverend Charles Hoffmann officiating. Visitation will be from 11-1 Sat. at St. John Catholic Church. Interment will be at Queen of Peace Cemetery. In honor of her son David, memorials may be directed to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
