Evon "Missy" Pla

February 3, 1968 — March 2, 2025

Missy Rae (Evon) Pla, age 57, of Birnamwood, passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2025, at her beloved home. Born on February 3, 1968, in Wausau, WI, she was the daughter of Marlene (Juedes) Sabatke and the late John Sabatke.

Missy was a graduate of Wausau West High School and furthered her education at North Central Technical College. On April 2, 1999, she was united in marriage to Christopher Pla. Together, they created a life filled with love, laughter, and so many great adventures.

She was the proud owner of Midwest Drilling Supply, but it was her passion for life outside of work that really defined her spirit. She was always there to listen, offering trusted advice when you needed it most. Missy was known for her hard work and dedication in everything she did and loved; including cooking, baking, gardening, and crafting. She was an avid nature lover, her favorite places including the Dells of the Eau Claire and traveling all over the West and exploring National Parks.

Her true love, however, was her animals; she was an animal whisperer in every sense. A dedicated horsewoman, she was deeply involved with the Marathon County 4-H Horse Project from a young age. She impacted many 4-H youth, continuing as an adult leader for 12+ years. She organized Taking The Reins, Horsemasters, and volunteered with the Wisconsin Pony of Americas Club. Missy took immense joy in traveling the country to show horses alongside her daughter Emily.

Over the years, Missy nurtured a wide array of beloved animals, including her treasured horses—Sunrise, Lakota, Scarlet, Rowdy, Duchess, and Elliot—and her adored dogs including Toby, Teddy, Rocco, Cosmo, Tilly, Daisy, and Bridger— and her adored cats Kiki, Magic, Bobo, White Kitten, and Callie. Each one held a very special place in her heart.

Missy’s love for life extended beyond her family and pets. She was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord dearly. She was a strong, loving, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend leaving a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know her.

Missy is survived by her husband, Chris, and children: Samantha (Jamie) Zupon of Antigo, Kory Kucirek of Wausau, and Emily Pla, currently attending UW-Eau Claire. She also leaves behind her mother, Marlene Sabatke of Wausau, her brother Brian (Donna) Sabatke of Wausau, and her adored grandchildren; Levi, Hunter, Aslynn, Violet, Jax, and Myles.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Missy’s life and share cherished memories.
