Fern J. Mathisen, lifelong resident of the Polar area, died Fri. Aug. 21 at Langlade Hospital. She was 72 years old.She was born Nov. 16, 1936 in Polar, daughter of the late Herman and Helen (Rabe) Bruening. On May 25, 1963 she married Elroy Mathisen, and he survives.Mrs. Mathisen graduated from Antigo High School in 1954, and was employed at Plaspack until her retirement. After retirement, she enjoyed driving for Langlade Ford.She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, and taking care of her grandchildren. She was a member of the Neff Switch Card Club and Polar Blazers Snowmobile Club.A lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, she was active in Ladies Aid and the Church Choir.Survivors, in addition to her husband, Elroy, include 3 daughters, Ginanne (Walter) Blanc of Cape Coral, FL, Tina (Floyd) Brandt of Bryant, and Penny (special friend Glenn Zeller) Bolen of Antigo; 3 sons, Chris "Cubby" Bolen of Bryant, Tim (Jean) Bolen of Polar, and Rick (Michele) Bolen of Waupaca; a sister, Lorraine (Julius) Michels of Antigo; sisters and brothers in law, Harvey (Ellen) Mathisen of Rhinelander, and Merrilee (Jerome) Omernik of Auburn, WA; 14 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by many cousins, other relatives, and close friends.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Glenford Bolen.
