Floyd Earl Burkhart passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 8, 2023. He was 90 years old. He was under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice.
Floyd was born in Kent on September 10, 1932, to the late Reuben A. and Mary (Weber) Burkhart. He attended Kent and Malcolm Grade Schools. Floyd lived most of his life in Kent and Bryant but lived briefly in Milwaukee and Michigan. He proudly served in the U. S. Navy from 1952-1956. He was united in marriage to Doris E. Cunningham on August 10, 1957, at the First Baptist Church of Antigo, and together they enjoyed 56 years of marriage.
Floyd worked as a logger, farmer, semi-driver and mechanic. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church. Most of all he enjoyed the events and holidays spent with his beloved wife and loving family.
He is survived by three daughters Lalie (Steve) Wilke, Linda (Nigel) Ramos, and Sarah (David) Borneman and two sons Frank and Floyd Burkhart. He is further survived by grandchildren Philip (Heather) Wilke, Alainna (Max) Kaplan, Stephanie, Elisabeth, Michael, and John Wilke, Kattie (Boe Messer) Borneman, Kristen and Cody Borneman, Ariel (Eric) Scheftgen and Jordon Shidell, as well as great grandchildren Levi Samuelson and Yaeli Kaplan, Finnley and Rowan Wilke and Travis Duncan.
He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, parents Reuben and Mary Burkhart, in-laws John and Lalie Cunningham, a daughter Laura Shidell, a granddaughter Cassandra Borneman, siblings and spouses Ralph (Carol) Burkhart, Don (Eleanor) Burkhart, Ed (Joyce) Burkhart, Leona (Lawrence) Parsons and Ruth (Orlin) Carlson, and Paul, Otto, and Wayne Burkhart.
Funeral services for Floyd will be held at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home, 504 Edison Street, Antigo on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Pastor John Sass will preside. Military honors to follow. Interment will be at Bent Cemetery in Bryant in the spring. The visitation will be held Friday, January 13th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
The family extends a special thank you to Jenny Ashbeck who helped the family care for Dad over the last year and to LeRoyer Hospice for their compassionate help in these past weeks.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to LeRoyer Hospice or the Honor Flight. In 2016, Floyd was privileged to be a guest on the Honor Flight and often said it was a life changing opportunity.
