Frank T. Gelhausen, Jr. age 97, passed away on October 9, 2024, going to join his “Bon”.
Frank was born on March 12, 1927 in Antigo, a son of the late Frank T. and Rose (Kelnhofer) Gelhausen.
On August 16, 1950, he was united in marriage to Berwyn “Bonnie” Babler. She preceded him in death on November 20, 2019.
Frank was a graduate of Antigo High School class of 1946. He served in the Merchant Marines and US Navy. Then returning to Antigo, Frank worked in produce for Cohodas Bros. and Kavanaugh Company then later he joined his father and brother, Jerry, in the family business, Northern Potato Sales. He enjoyed his work, mornings at the Dixie, playing cards at the Gold Coast, Cutlass, the Elks Club, and Nick’s Tap. He also enjoyed duck and rib eye along with visits from Sue at the Fifth Ave. Restaurant.
He enjoyed time with his family, fishing on Columbus Lake, being at the family cottage, and especially four generations poker games with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. These were treasured times for Frank and his family. In addition to poker games with the guys, Frank loved to team up with his granddaughter-in-law, Sheila in cribbage and they usually came up the winners.
In recent years, he resided at Rosalia Gardens. He loved listening to Glenn Miller or polkas on his record player. He looked forward to his everyday visits from his son Gregg and the special meals prepared by Peggy.
Survivors include his two sons: Gregg (Peggy) Gelhausen of Antigo and Mike (Carol) Gelhausen of Hartford, 3 grandchildren: Justin (Sheila), Jeff (Gianna), and Michelle Gelhausen, 5 great grandchildren: James, Jack, Lincoln, Ella, and Bret Gelhausen.
In addition to his wife and parents, Frank was preceded in death by a brother Gerald “Jerry” Gelhausen.
“Frank will be greatly missed, though our family takes great comfort in knowing that he is together again with our mom enjoying nightly cocktails by candlelight and probably throwing Bernie the dog a Cheeto.” But we also know by a penny from heaven that he is OK and watching over us.
A private service was held with entombment at Queen of Peace Mausoleums.
