Gary Apitz

Gary Apitz passed away unexpectedly on September 18, 2021 at the age of 68. Gary was born on February 27, 1953 in Appleton to the late Clifford and Virginia Apitz. He was raised in Appleton and graduated from Appleton West High School in 1971. He then went on to attend UW Oshkosh before becoming a railroad engineer. On May 30, 1986 he was united in marriage to Tracy Apitz at the Community Baptist Church in Shawano. The couple then lived in Shawano where Gary worked for the Shawano Gresham School District in Food Service. They then settled in the Antigo area. In his younger years, Gary enjoyed water skiing, canoeing, and playing bass in his band. He lived his life to the fullest and was able to enjoy many of his passions in retirement. He was a fantastic guitarist and enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, and hikes through the woods. He had also taken up racing sled dogs. He was a true animal lover and had a soft spot for each of his animals. Most of all, Gary enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a great husband, dad, and grandpa. In addition to his wife Tracy, Gary is survived by children; Shawn (Laura) Apitz of Tucson, AZ and Sarah (Corey) Baumgartner of Kaukauna, stepchildren; Chadwick Ritchie of Greenville and Benjamin (Dana) Ritchie of Shawano, grandchildren; Eva Jean, Aaron, Addison, Sofia, Lily, Summer, Wyatt, Kennedy, and Austin, brother; Delvin Apitz of Laona. Gary is also survived by many great friends and his beloved horse Brassy. In accordance with his wishes, a private memorial service will be held.
