Gene George Huebner

Gene George Huebner, age 73, is resting high on the mountain. He was called home on April 4, 2021, Easter Sunday. Gene was at his home under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. Gene was born on January 13, 1948 to the late Orville and Emogene (Smith) Huebner. He attended Mattoon Elementary and graduated from Antigo High School. He worked for Schroeder Brothers Farm and then served in the US Army. Upon returning from service, he continued to work at the Schroeder Brothers Farm helping to manage the farm until his death. Gene was a well known and successful horse breeder along with his life partner and wife of 30 years, Tammy Kowalski. He ran starting gates for the Wisconsin Horse Racing Association for 15 years, raced in Antigo for many years, and had many successes at Arlington, Hawthorn, Prairie Meadows, Eden Prairie, MN, West Virginia, Ohio, and Paradise Turf in Arizona. He was the leading Wisconsin breeder with Armed Truce and Solartee as the highest money earning Wisconsin bred racehorse. His involvement with horses extended to that of hunter jumpers, eventers, and dressage. He and Tammy welcomed youth to their stables offering riding lessons and boarding horses and making many friends throughout the years. He was an active member of Triple R Riding Club and served as the Horse Show Ring Master. Gene kept very busy with work and the horses, but somehow found time to participate in a bowling league, ride 4-wheeler, work on building projects with his nephew Nathan Huebner, and visit his sister in Arizona. He was an avid deer hunter, Packer fan, Brewer fan, and always drove a Ford truck. In addition to his wife, Tammy, Gene is survived by a daughter; Michelle (Jody) Giese of Mosinee, 3 grandchildren; Jerik (Renee) Giese, Jianca (Kyle) McHugh, Jevret ((Sammie) Giese, 3 great grandchildren; Lanndon, Brooklyn, Oaklynn, and 2 great grandchildren to arrive soon, a brother; Clark (Karen) Huebner of Antigo, a sister; Joan Brown of Phoenix, AZ; nephews; Wayne, Todd (Charlotte), Craig (Tina), great nephews; Ryan, Tory, Nathan, and Tyler, and his mother-in-law; Penny Kowalski. He was preceded in death by his parents,brother-in-law Ed Brown, and father-in-law Bill Kowalski. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 1:00 PM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the service at the funeral home. Reverend Dean Bertsch will officiate. Memorials in lieu of flowers will be gifted to a local girl who is battling an illness and has a dream to have a horse and riding lessons. Funds given will aid in purchasing the horse and providing lessons. Donation may also be made to Langlade County Humane Society. Strasser-Roller Funeral Home is assisting the family.
