Genevieve "Jenny" L. Hafemeister

Genevieve "Jenny" L. Hafemeister, 86, of Elcho died Tuesday at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Hafemeister was born January 19, 1926 in Elcho to the late Christ and Helga (Jacobsen) Hansen. She was raised from early childhood by her aunt and uncle Annie and Hans Halversen in Mattoon after the death of her mother. She graduated from Mattoon High School. She married George Hafemeister on February 9, 1946 in Milwaukee, WI. They lived in Libertyville, IL, Canada and South Africa. While in Illinois, she was employed by TRW doing clerical and secretarial work. Mrs. Hafemeister was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Elcho where she was very active and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed traveling and rides in the car with her husband and friends. She loved children and was fond of cats. She is survived by a brother Ralph (Toini) Hansen of Birnamwood, nephew and his wife Jack and Lorraine McCabe of Pelican Lake, dear friends Lonnie and Loretta Lodholz of Deerbrook, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hafemeister was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Helen Monsen, Lillian Davis and Ruby McCabe, 3 brothers, Hans, Arnold and Milton and her aunt and uncle Annie and Hans Halversen. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:30am at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Elcho. Reverend Jerome Hahn will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30am until the service at the church. Interment will be in Elcho Cemetery. A memorial will be established in Mrs. Hafemeister's name.
