George Oscar MacDonald, age 90, of Antigo passed away on December 2, 2025 under the care of his family, the staff of Evergreen Terrace, and LeRoyer Hospice.
George was born on August 12, 1935 in Antigo to the late James and Opal (McNinch) MacDonald. He graduated from Antigo High School, class of 1953. He married Judy Hendricks on February 8, 1956. She preceded him in death on May 30, 2021.
George worked in construction, owning and operating George MacDonald Construction. George’s passion and talent for construction and woodworking have passed down through generations in the MacDonald family. Even in recent weeks, George was able to be on the construction site of his grandson’s home construction.
George enjoyed trips to the casino, eating and socializing at the Dixie Lunch, and creating special memories with his loved ones.
He was a member of Ss. Mary and Hyacinth’s Catholic Church.
George is survived by children; Kelly (Scott) Below of Antigo, Rick MacDonald of Antigo, Kim (Joe) Halambeck of Antigo, Tammy (Greg) Leischer of Wausau, Brian (Kerry) MacDonald of Aniwa, and Brad (Bobbi) MacDonald of Polar, 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, brother James MacDonald of Antigo, sisters-in-law Mary Rusch and Vicki Hendricks.
In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by sisters Maxine MacDonald and Betty Holmberg, daughter-in-law Debbie MacDonald, great granddaughter Loretta Below, parents-in law Anthony and Rose (Kolz) Hendricks, brothers-in-law Dick Hendricks, Mike Hendricks, Billy Hendricks, Tom Rusch, and Doug Holmberg, sisters-in-law Lois MacDonald and Val Hendricks.
A visitation for George will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025 at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, a tree can be planted in George’s memory or memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice.
George’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Sarah and Gary Voytovich and the staff of Evergreen Terrace for all their care and comfort during this time and throughout George’s time there.
