Gerald "Gary" William Powell

Gerald "Gary" William Powell died on Monday, May 19 at his home in Deerbrook under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 67 years old. He was born February 3, 1947 in Antigo, son of the late Newt Logan and Eva Jane (Jones) Powell. He married Connie Holup on January 24, 1970. She resides in Deerbrook. Mr. Powell graduated from White Lake High School in 1965. He later graduated from the welding program at Northcentral Technical College. He was drafted into the US Army, and served 2 years. He fought in the Vietnam War. He was employed in construction and welding. He played lead guitar in many bands including Nite Life. He enjoyed hunting, Packer games, cribbage, old cars, making maple syrup, working with his wife Connie on their vegetable garden, and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Clint (Stephanie) Powell of Antigo; a daughter, Robin (Elmer) Rose of Antigo; 2 sisters, Carol O'Meara of Antigo, and Donna (Wayne) LaPage of Antigo; a brother, Kenneth (Carol) Powell of Iron Mountain, MI; 2 brothers-in-law, Ralph Kelpsas of Antigo, and Lionel Robinson of Elton; 5 grandchildren, Holly, Jake, Hailey, Jesse, and Caitlyn; and a great-granddaughter, Scarlett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Marty Kelpsas, Dulcia Robinson, and Lola Olson; 4 brothers, Tom, Cliff, Jim, and John, who died in infancy; a sister-in-law, Norma Powell; and a brother-in-law, Floyd Olson. A funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Wilner officiating. Visitation will be 9:00-12:00 at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow the service in Neva Cemetery. A memorial will be established in Gary's name.
