Jack D. Wurtinger Sr. age 82, passed away at his home on November 21, 2021 under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. Jack was born on December 11, 1938 in Antigo to the late Harold and Doris (Van Ooyen) Wurtinger. On May 2, 1964, he was united in marriage to Marguerite "Peg" Jones at Peace Lutheran Church where he was a faithful member until his passing. Peg survives. On December 12, 1955, the day after his 17th birthday, Jack enlisted in the Army National Guard. He served until his honorable discharge on May 22, 1959. From there, he enlisted in the Coast Guard on June 16, 1959, serving until June 14, 1963. During this time, he received his GED in December of 1962 from the Armed Forces Institute. Jack was proud to serve his country, and therefore, he reenlisted in the Army National Guard on January 13, 1979, serving in the National Guard for a total of 24 years. Jack was a member of the American Legion Post 3 and the VFW Post 2653. In addition to proudly serving his country, Jack worked for a multitude of Antigo businesses. Jack worked for Fairview Dairy, Schultz Creamery, as their first licensed cheesemaker, Zelazoski Wood Products, Amron, and Merit Gear. He also worked with his dad in masonry. He was truly a Jack of all trades. Jack enjoyed spending his time camping, watching his game shows, and playing horseshoes, dice, dimes, and cards. He most loved spending time with his family and passed down the importance of family to his own. In addition to his wife and loving canine companion Spunky, Jack is survived by daughter Kim Frisch of Antigo, sons, Darrell Ashe of Georgia, Jack Jr. (Diana) Wurtinger of Bryant, sisters Shirley Zimmerman of Antigo, Carol (Tim) Fendos of Wausau, and Barbara Thompson of Pennsylvania, grandchildren Tanya (Jon) Eckert of Deerbrook, Brandy (Conrad) Waldner of Antigo, Tamara (fiancé Brady Mengel) Frisch of Antigo, John Michael Frisch of Antigo, Justin Frisch of Antigo, Alyssa Frisch of Antigo, Brian Ashe of Georgia, Julie (Fidel) Granda of Georgia, Sara (Matt) Rasmussen of Wausau, Ashley Wurtinger of Antigo, Mara Wurtinger of Antigo, Kaitlin Wurtinger of Bryant, and James Wurtinger of Bryant, great grandchildren, Evan, Robbie, Noah, Joshy, Jaxon, Athena, Aspen, Ares, Olivia, Marley, Preston, Brandon, and Shadow. Jack is further survived by many sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by many brothers-in-law and 5 great grand angel babies. A funeral service for Jack will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Karolus officiating. A visitation will take place on Friday, November 26, 2021 at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and again prior to the service on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery.
