James E. Horton of Antigo passed away on May 6, 2026 surrounded by family, under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. He was 89 years old.
Jim was born on July 21, 1936 in Antigo to the late James H. and Marion (Plzak) Horton. He was united in marriage to Barbara on September 29, 1956 at St. Hyacinth’s Catholic Church.
Jim attended South Division School in Milwaukee. After moving to Antigo, he graduated from Antigo High School, class of 1954. Jim went on to own and operate H & R Furniture with his business partner Gerald Riha. He served in the Army National Guard for 6 years as a tank commander. He was longtime member of Ss. Mary and Hyacinth’s Catholic Church. Jim loved traveling, especially by motorhome. He was an avid dog lover and also enjoyed collecting coins.
In addition to his wife Barb, Jim is survived by daughter Linda (Duane) Meyers of Sun Prairie, son James A. (Jenny) Horton of Maple Grove, MN, grandchildren Alyssa Horton of New York, NY, Jaimie Horton of Maple Grove, MN, Alec (Karlie) Horton of Wilmette, IL, Kristyn Meyers of Jackson, TN, and Kory Meyers of Sun Prairie, WI, great grandchildren Olivia Horton and James T. Horton, brother Dennis Horton, sister-in-law Beverly Kapusta and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by brothers Thomas (Charlotte) Horton and Richard (Jean) Horton, sisters-in-law Diane Horton and June (Ralph) Kullander, brother-in-law Joe Kapusta, and nephew Kelly Kullander.
A private funeral Mass is taking place. Burial will be held at Queen of Peace Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Langlade County Humane Society.
