James Joseph Pendleton, Sr.

James Joseph Pendleton, Sr. of Antigo, died at his home on November 20, 2013 at the age of 62. He was born Dec. 1, 1950 in Antigo, son of the late Vila and Merle (Watson) Pendleton. He attended Lily Grade School, Antigo High School, and Blackwell Job Corps. He was employed by Chicago Northwestern, working as a trackman and living in Antigo, Wyoming, and Arizona until his retirement. He also worked as a logger, short order cook, and for AT&T. He operated the Lumberjack Steam Engine at Camp 5 Museum in Laona. He will be remembered as a kind, generous, and compassionate man who was well-liked and loved by many. He never met a stranger and was always friendly. He was strong-willed and very knowledgeable, especially on the subject of trains and the railroad, which he was most passionate about. Mr. Pendleton was a great cook, and loved to cook for a crowd. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, raising flowers and vegetables in his garden. He was a capable man, who helped build many houses and also did mechanic work. Survivors include 2 daughters, Lynette (Jay) Tafoya of Cheyenne, WY, and Stephanie Pendleton of Antigo; a son, James Joseph Pendleton Jr. of Antigo; 3 sisters, Claire Radtke of Wausau, Vila Jean Simon of Florida, and Cynthia Pendleton of Elcho; 5 brothers, LaVerne Pendleton of Tucson, AZ, Juan Pendleton of Jefferson, Glen (Donna) Pendleton of Milwaukee, William Pendleton of Helenville, and Robert Pendleton of Chino Valley, AZ; 3 grandchildren, Jaelyn, Charlotte, and Sonny; and many nieces and nephews In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Pearl "Sissy", Mary Jane Ramer, and Mary Taylor, and a brother, Daryl Watson A memorial service will take place at 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home, with Pastor Danny Pyeatt officiating. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 at the funeral home.
