James Raymond Brechlin, of Antigo, passed away at Langlade Hospital on Saturday, July 19, 2014 under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice after a courageous fight with cancer. He was 64 years old. He was born in Antigo on Feb. 24, 1950, son of the late Raymond and Hazel (Lutz) Brechlin. He married Kay (nee Grabowsky) McKinsey on June 28, 2003 at their home in Antigo, and she survives. He attended grade school at Peace Lutheran and graduated from Antigo High School in 1968. He joined the US Marine Corps at that time and served in the Vietnam War. He retired as a Master Sergeant in August, 1988. He was proud of his career in the Marines, and told many stories about his travels to different countries. He had a passion for working with wood and building fires in the fire pit. Watching the birds in the backyard brought him great joy. He also enjoyed cooking, playing cards with family, and watching the Brewers, Packers, golf, and NASCAR. In addition to his wife, Kay Brechlin, he is survived by his daughters, Katie (Chris) Vasquez of Texas, and Sarah (Lucas) Kindlinger of Texas; a stepdaughter, Wendy McKinsey of California; grandchildren, Mason, Noah, Laney, Lacey, and Madeline; sisters, Sharon Weyenberg of New Mexico, Carol Cornelius of Antigo, Mary Brown of Sussex, Carlye (Don) Quam of Oconomowoc, and Jean Brechlin of Antigo; and in-laws, Gary (Sharon) Grabowsky of California, Ty (Kim) Grabowsky of Antigo, and Gail (Bill Walton) Henry of Arizona. A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Elmwood Cemetery. Strasser-Roller Funeral Home is assisting the family. Friends may visit online at www.strasserrollerfh.com.
