Jeffrey T. Winter, age 61, of Antigo died Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at The Bay at Garden View Assisted Living Center.
Jeff was born in Madison, Wisconsin on May 6, 1961. He attended St. John Catholic School and graduated from Antigo High School in 1979. He then went to St. Norbert College for two years and transferred to U.W. Madison, graduating in 1985, a member of the Sociology Golden Key Honor Society. He was a volunteer for McBurney Resource Center, reading lecture notes for the blind, and for the missions in South Chicago.
Jeff’s interests were sports and writing. He wrote and published several books, edited books for others, and created websites. He also worked for the Antigo Daily Journal.
Jeff was given the “Gift of Life”, a pancreas and kidney transplant, in September of 2001. Truly a gift after battling diabetes since infancy.
He is survived by his mother, Norma, sister, Karen (Michael) Cherry, Naples, Florida, brothers, David (Keri) Arkdale, Wisconsin, and Michael (Maureen), Bass Lake, Wisconsin. Three nieces, Morgan and Maggie Winter, and Danielle (Jeffrey) Cherry Fryer, one grand-niece, Lilly Fryer, and one nephew Matthew Winter. Uncles Don (Nancy) Winter and Jerry (Linda) Pitts, Aunts Elaine Winter, Mary Stasek and Marvaleen Mullins. He was predeceased by his father, Richard, in 2014, grandparents, Gustave and Gertrude Winter and Earnest and Martha Pitts, Uncles Jack Winter, Ken Henry, Gilbert Stasek, and Robert Schremp, Aunts Shirley Henry, Doris Willis and Rosemarie (Tony) Ziegart.
Memorials may be given to the LeRoyer Hospice or “Juvenile Diabetes Association “JDRF” or just say a prayer of thanksgiving for the tremendous amount of research that has been done to improve the lives of young people with this disease. Special thanks to the entire staff at the Bay at Garden View and LeRoyer Hospice.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at The Bay at Garden View Assisted Living Center and LeRoyer Hospice for the exceptional care given to Jeff.
