Jerome "Romy" Huebl, age 86 of Aniwa, died Thursday at his home under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care Hospice and his family and friends. Mr. Huebl was born on July 14, 1925 to the late Michael and Ann (Wolf) Huebl in Aniwa. Mr. Huebl attended Aniwa School and then served in the US Army in Germany during WWII, and also served in the Korean War. On December 15, 1951 he was united in marriage to Delores Sweetman. She preceded him in death on February 16, 1997. He and his family lived in Milwaukee, where Mr. Huebl worked for the City of Milwaukee as a Sanitation Engineer. They enjoyed time spent at the cottage in Aniwa. In 2006 Mr. Huebl permanently moved to Aniwa, where he enjoyed his hobby farm and pond. Mr. Huebl enjoyed the outdoors, planting trees, observing wildlife and the companionship of his dogs. He was a man of faith with a gentle and compassionate spirit who treasured time with his family and friends. He loved getting mail, especially from family and friends. Mr. Huebl is survived by 4 daughters, Linda Marie Bertino of Greenfield, WI, Shirl Huebl-Gordon and her husband Ernie of Milwaukee, Patricia Jo (Gonzalo) Rivera of Milwaukee, and Geraldine Huebl-Arteaga of Greenfield, WI; 2 sons, David Micheal Huebl of Aniwa and Robert Jerome (lifetime partner, Frank O'Connor) Huebl; 8 grandchildren, Katie (Vincent) Velazquez, Sara (Alex) Sandoval-Fonseca, Veronica (Mario) Reyes, Jerome Huebl, Nicole Bertino, Martin Artega, Paul Macias, and Tyler Schnese, and 8 great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Elianna, Vanessa, Anayeli, EmmaLisa, Ilaria, Allison, and Eva, and a sister Ann Strasser of Antigo. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Wenfred, Ed, Tony, Henry, Joe, and Bobby, and 2 sisters, Virginia Rahn and Mary Langner. Visitation will be 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday December 28 at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home, 504 Edison Street in Antigo. Visitation will also be on Thursday at 11:00am with the Funeral Mass to follow at 12:00 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Aniwa, WI. Interment will be in St. Boniface Catholic Church Cemetery in Aniwa. Reverend Everard Scesney will officiate. Family and friends may visit online at www.strasserrollerfh.com.
