Joan Anna Heistad

Joan Anna Heistad, age 85, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

Joan was born on September 25, 1939 in Polar to the late Otto and Sarah (Kieper) Hintz.

She attended Antigo High School.

Joan was united in marriage to Alfred Heistad. The couple later divorced.

Joan was employed by Northern Lights Supper Club, Wild Wolf Inn, Hoffman House and provided private cleaning services. She also worked for H & R Block and was employed by Walmart for 17 years.

She lived most of her life in the White Lake and Antigo areas and resided in Milwaukee for a short time in the early 1960’s.

Joan was a wonderful homemaker enjoying cooking, gardening, canning with her sister, and crafting. She loved the time spent at the log house, visiting family, visiting Karen’s farm and traveling.

Survivors include her children Karen (Thomas) Butler of Wisconsin Dells and Kevin (Deb) Heistad of Aniwa, grandchildren: Jessica Heistad, Nicole (Sylvester) Heistad-Carrillo, Jordan (Julie) Heistad, Jeremy Butler, Sean Butler, great grandchildren: Miguel, Delfino, Victoria, Rueben, Trulicity, Amelia and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by sisters: Elaine Baker, Arlene Somann, Eleanor Ortlieb, Grace Franklin, twin sister Jeanette Allen, Carol Hoolsema, brothers: Reuben Hintz, Wallace Hintz, Ervin Hintz, Alan Hintz, and James Hintz.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 30 at 11:00 AM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the service. Interment will be in the Polar Cemetery. Reverend Marvin Kindle will officiate.
