Joann F. Hess

Joann F. Hess of Antigo died Thursday, Feb. 13 at Kindred – Eastview at the age of 87. She was born February 28, 1926, daughter of the late Milton and Bina (Nicholson) Shelley. She married Carl Hess, and he preceded her in death in 1999. Mrs. Hess graduated from Tripoli High School, and worked as a homemaker and dairy farmer. She and her family operated farms in Mattoon and California. She enjoyed flower gardening, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Mattoon Church of the Nazerene. Survivors include 2 daughters, Sharon (Thomas) Lott of Antigo, and Carla (Dennis) Welch of North Carolina; a son Duane Hess of Bowler; a sister, Ellie McPhail of Antigo; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Silva; a son, Randy Hess; 7 sisters; and 8 brothers. A funeral service will be at noon Tuesday at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Quinn officiating. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. until the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery.
