John Henry Gregg of Antigo, formerly of Wabeno, passed away on December 9, 2025 at the age of 90 at Rosalia Gardens.
John was born on March 15, 1935 in Green Bay to the late Inez Rose (Hartman) and John Stephen Gregg. He graduated from Wabeno High School, class of 1952. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Jonelle Rae Marsh on October 5, 1957 in Townsend, WI. The couple celebrated 68 years of marriage in October.
John worked in various different industries before settling into his career in Forest Service for the Department of Agriculture. He was a faithful and active attendant of Faith United Church of Christ. He participated in singing in the choir and reading during the service. John was devoted to God, his wife, and his family. He treasured time with not only his immediate family, but also his nieces, nephews, and extended family. John had quite the sense of humor, always putting a smile on others faces with his gentle teasing. He had the heart of a servant and was generous with his time, volunteering at the hospital, food pantry, and ADRC. His family recalled not having a Thanksgiving tradition because John devoted his Thanksgiving to serving others. He loved all sports, but especially loved cheering on the Antigo sports teams. He and Jonelle were honored as honorary grandparents on grandparents’ night for always being in attendance.
In addition to his wife Jonelle, John is survived by daughters Jamie Gregg of Antigo and Allison Broerman of Anchorage, AK, son John Gregg of Marble Falls, TX, sisters, Inez “Faye” Baumgarten and Sally Jane Gregg, grandchildren, Brodie (Nick) Kimmel, Danica (Woodsen) Saunders, Tyler (Hannah) Graczkowski, Tucker (Akiko) Graczkowski, Justin (Ashley) Gregg, Christopher (Cidney) Gregg, great grandchildren, Lydia, Adrienne, Atlee, Melozi, Yukla, Eska, RaeLynn, Marlei, Alice, Takumi, John Hudson, Carson, Riley, and Brooks, and many other nieces and nephews who John dearly loved.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Ted Baumgarten and his favorite daughter-in-law Coleen Gregg.
John’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice, nurses and staff at Rosalia Gardens and the undying support, comfort and care from Jill Lewandowski and the staff of Hands with Heart.
A memorial service for John will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Faith United Church of Christ with Pastor Wes Jedras officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the church from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Military honors for John will follow the service.
