John “Pete” Suick, age 93 of Antigo, passed away on November 21, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. Pete was under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. Pete was born on July 15, 1928 in Antigo to the late Frank and Liala (Boldt) Suick. On January 7, 1956, Pete was united in marriage to his “Honey” Ruth Robrecht at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on December 25, 2017. He is also preceded in death by his brother James Suick. Pete graduated from Antigo High School in 1946. He served in the United States Navy for 4 years. Before and after serving in the Navy Pete worked in the Suick Muskie Bar where he met his wife, Ruth. Frank Suick patented the Suick Lure and in the early years the manufacturing of the lures was done in the Suick Muskie Bar then in Pete’s home. In 1980 his son, Steve became partners with him in the business. They were later joined by his grandson, Mike in 2010. Pete worked making lures until his death. He designed and built all of the machinery used for production. Pete was a co-owner, with his brother Jim, of the Palace Theater and Drive-In Theater. Pete also worked with Jim at Suick Real Estate for decades. Throughout his career he was involved in many land development projects and was instrumental in bringing businesses to Antigo that still prosper today. He was a founding member and first president of the Antigo Optimist Club. He was also a member of the Elks Club and St. Hyacinth’s Church. Pete is survived by children, Steve (Karen) Suick of Antigo, Sandra (Russell) Hauge of London, OH, Bill (Patricia) Suick of Verona, and Barbara (Bob Badger) Suick of Hudson; 8 grandchildren, Jonathan, Mike, Ben, Ella, Nate, Alex, Scott, and Sam and 5 great-grandchildren. Pete greatly valued his time with family. Other joys for Pete came at Pelican Lake fishing, pulling water skiers and relaxing with family and friends on the screen porch. He enjoyed collecting and working on vintage cars and was a true mechanical genius who could fix or make anything. Pete was also an avid hunter. A memorial mass for Pete will be held on Saturday, November 27 at Ss. Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church at 1:30 PM with Father Joel Sember officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service at the church from 12:00 to 1:30 PM. There will be a gathering at the Elks Club following the service. In lieu of flowers, Pete requested that donations be made to LeRoyer Hospice.
