Joseph Ralph Schroeder, age 78, of Antigo, died Sunday November 27, 2022 at the Bay at Eastview after courageous ten year battle with multiple myeloma surrounded by his family.
Joe was born on March 18, 1944 in Antigo to the late Ralph and Magdalene (Waldvogel) Schroeder.
Joe was a graduate of Antigo High School class of 1963. He served in the United States Air Force from 1963-1967 as a jet aircraft mechanic.
On January 14, 1967, Joseph was united in marriage to Carol Parsons at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Polar.
Joe worked at Don Schroeder Potato Farm with his brother, Don for several years and then Reif Construction before working for the Unified School District of Antigo, becoming the director of building and grounds, retiring in 2001.
Joe was dedicated to the community as a supervisor for the Town of Harrison and a member of the Unified School District of Antigo Board of Education.
Joe was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where he served as an elder and served on many church boards.
Joe and Carol enjoyed traveling with family and friends and were able to travel to Germany, take an Alaskan cruise, and cruise the Panama Canal. Winters were enjoyed in Florida for many years.
Joe’s greatest joy was by far his family and grandchildren.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Carol, include a daughter Tammy (Scott) Pehlke of Merrill, a son Todd (Jill) Schroeder of Wausau, grandchildren; Brittany (Dustin) Graap, Danielle Grosskurth (Nick), Brianna Grosskurth, Wyatt Grosskurth, Logan Schroeder, and Savannah Schroeder (Fernando), great grandchildren: Marcel, Leo, Emerie, Walker, a brother Donald Schroeder, and a sister Helen Burkhart.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Alvin (Alice) Schroeder, Howard (Eilene) Schroeder, sister-in-law Lois Schroeder, and a brother-in-law Paul Burkhart.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home and on Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church from 10:00 AM until the service. The funeral service will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church. Reverend David Karolus will officiate. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Polar. Military honors will take place at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Peace Lutheran Church Building Families in Christ.
